If you ever had the power to bring a deceased loved one back to life, would you?
Devastated by their mother's death, Edward and Alphonse Elric try to resurrect her through the use of alchemy. But nothing comes without a price, and according to the Law of Equivalent Exchange; "To Obtain Something, Something of Equal Value Must Be Lost."
During the process, Ed loses a leg, and Al loses his physical body. Ed manages to seal Al's soul into a suit of armor, but loses his right arm for that.
Makes for a real bad day.
Anyway, Ed becomes a State Alchemist in order to gain access to the military's resources. He and Al are looking for the legendary Philosopher's Stone, a stone created from the tedious Work of alchemy, that's believed to be able to turn plain metal into gold, heal, and grant immortality.
In short, Fullmetal Alchemist is about learning truths that are part of becoming an adult. Because of the mistakes they made in the past, Ed and Al are thrust upon the adult world to try and rectify their sins.
The yaoi aspect of this series can stem from the rocky relationship between Colonel Roy Mustang, the Flame Alchemist, and Ed. Also, Major Armstrong, the Strong Arm Alchemist, has a strange obsession with his looks and protecting Ed and Al. That could mean nothing at all, but hey, come on, I'm reviewing for yaoi here!
The name of the show comes from Ed's State title: Fullmetal Alchemist.
All I've seen of this show is up to the death of Maes Hughes, so I don't know whether they actually do get their bodies restored or not, but it's not like I would freely tell you anyway! I wouldn't spoil the show!
All in all, this is a great show!
