Papa has some of the highest production values I've seen in a semi-explicit to explicit anime. The animation is very smooth and pretty, the music and sound is pretty good, and it doesn't fully come off as a bad adult video. This story is very clearly geared towards a female audience however, and will be obvious if you decide to give this anime a try.

In this series, a high-school freshman named Mira is totally in love with the man who is considered to be his father. Not in the typical father-son sense either. They have a sexual relationship together, and not even Mira's friends are aware of it! Now, I'm not sure if you've read descriptions of this or not. In most of them they call Mira's father his "father-in-law". I don't know if they're trying to make this anime not seem like the yaoicest that it is, but in the anime we are lead to believe that Kyosuke is definitely 100% Mira's true father.

So, what exactly happens? Mira wakes up on his first day of high-school; he's about 15. He goes to wake up Kysouke who is still asleep. They have some kind of sexual encounter, but it doesn't really show the specifics. Because of all this, Mira is now late for school! He rushes off as quickly as he can, but end up getting lost and asking an upperclassman for help. Fortunately for Mira, the one he bumps into thinks Mira's cute. He shows Mira the way, and this our hero gets to his class on time.

In the classroom he bumps into Kazu, a friend from a previous school, and also a childhood friend named Shun. It's obvious right here that Kazu has the hots for Mira. Nothing really happens between them, but we get some nice flashbacks from earlier this morning. After school, Mira goes home and has some more sex with Kyosuke. Cut to the next day. Mira is both woozy from having too much sex, and angered because his father has been being an idiot lately. A lot of stuff happens, including Kazu getting super jealous, but poor Mira's mind is still on his father. Mira decides to make a nice dinner for himself and Kyosuke (wearing short shorts and an apron!), but his father doesn't show up until late. This upsets Mira even more, and you can tell his father is upset at Mira's sadness.

The next day at school, Mira realizes he's torn the family registry and half and must get a new one. He goes with Kazu to the registry office, where they have a loud conversation about homosexual shouta incest. And then... he finds out. Kyosuke isn't actually his real father! Mira is extremely upset about this. You'd think he'd be happy that his lover wasn't his real father! But this is only the beginning.

Overall I thought this two part OVA was much too short. It was over way too quickly, and the ending just wasn't satisfying enough. None of the subplots really get resolved either. This show doesn't really take itself seriously and so you'll encounter quite a few laughs. If you're looking for hard core anime sex, this isn't really for you. Mira, however, is voiced by none other than Hikaru Midorikawa, voice of Sora for Sukisyo.

All in all this anime was a fairly entertaining experience. I'd recommend you to watch it at least once!
