Touch of Pink is a touching and sweet look at love. Sure, it's gay love, but hey, that makes it hotter right?

The story follows Alim (Jimi Mistry), an Indian (REAL Indian, not Native American) man living in England with his boyfriend Giles (Kristen Holden-Reid). Added to this is Alim's imaginary friend/caregiver... Cary Grant! Who is played brilliantly by Kyle MacLachlan.

Alim's mother, Nuru (Sue Matthew), is a tranditional woman wanting her son to be happily married and settled, hopefully to a brain surgeon... and a woman, which goes without saying as she knows nothing of her son's homosexuality. Nuru's desire is fueled by her nephew's coming marriage. Doing what any good mother would do, she goes to London and makes things worse.

This is a fun movie with many twists and turns and giggles as Alim and Cary try to keep his secret from his mother while keeping his relationship with Giles in tact. It's mostly a humorous farce, much like watching "I Love Lucy," but comes to have many touching and tender moments as things come unraveled.

In the end Touch of Pink is all about love of all different forms... love of a mother for her son, love of a son for his mother, love between two people who know they're great together, and surprisingly, but most subtly, the love of a boy for his father. There is no blantant gay bashing going about, however there is the cultural homophobic problem mucking everything up. I was very pleased to find that it didn't overrun the story though, which was always about the people.

HBO and MAX occassionally run Touch of Pink, but if you can, definitely see it on DVD!
