Gravitation cover I, spending a rather large amount of time browsing around shounen-ai/yaoi websites, eventually came across a review saying that Gravitation was a must for shounen-ai lovers. So I bought the manga.

Although the artwork was fairly impressive, the storyline wasn't so. The main character, Shuuichi Shindou, to put it frankly, is very obnoxious. He's the type of person that only family can love.

The story starts out with Shuuichi talking to Hiroshi about their music. Later on, Shuuichi and Hiro are seen out eating and Hiro tells Shuuichi that Shuuichi has enough talent to become a singer. Shuuichi then takes a walk in the park to contemplate this. While wandering around, his lyrics are blown into the wind and are picked up by a foreign looking man who quickly tells Shuuichi that the lyrics are terrible, that he has no talent, and that Shuuichi should just give up.

After that, Shuuichi quickly falls in love with this stranger, who is later come to be known as Eiri Yuki, the famous romance novelist.

The series progesses in several ways, but one thing really bothers me about it. Murakami did an excellent job for developing storylines, back story, and artwork for this series, but she didn't bother to make her main character someone that the readers could fall in love with.

Shuuichi is loud and annoying, and I'm surprised that Yuki didn't throw him out before anything serious could happen.

Overall, the series is worth buying, and I will continue to do so until the end of the Gravitation EX series, but it isn't something that is going to leave a lasting impression, nor get you hooked the series.
