Selfish Love

So. many. things. wrong. But where to begin? Many are things I might have overlooked if I had enjoyed the story better. Take the art (please, take the art) -- it was a very rare instance when I thought anyone in the manga was attractive, let alone the two main characters. Chins are existent only in the frontal view -- from the side, there is no slope down from the lower lip. Hair is stringy. I have a thing for anime/manga hair, and this is just... overkilling the details and then burying them hapharzardly in a shallow grave.

But this is all very trivial and could have very easily been taken in stride if it weren't for the characterizations. You've heard the expression 'he doth protest too much'? Take that, capitalize it, bold it and italicize it, and you'll barely touch the tip of the protesting-uke iceberg as portrayed in this manga. Literally every single page has the main uke blushing (with a frown) or yelling or being annoyed. Never is there a moment when there is a sense of connection between the two main boys, besides the fact the fact that they attend the same school and had met, once and briefly, when they were young. Ryuya spends every page until the very end telling Orito vehemently how much and in how many ways he dislikes him. It is only in the last few pages when he realizes, that yes and of course, he is in 'love'. "No", "Stop", "Don't touch me", "I hate you" -- standard uke-speak, I'll give you that, but with this much intensity it's overwhelming in the extreme and very put-off-ish.

I've read my fair share of manga, both 'legal' and scanlated, and have disliked surprisingly few. This title I am selling, asap. I see no reason whatsoever to keep it in my collection. (Just realized I've said very little about the seme. That is amusingly fitting, as there really is not much to say about him, excepting the fact that he's very tenacious -- think 'monitor lizard'.)
